Left without revolution, dilemmas of this time ; Izquierda sin revolución, los dilemas de la época

Around 1979, with the Nicaraguan revolution, the cycle of anti-capitalist revolutions of the 20th century was closed. Due to the subsequent failure of these attempts (with capitalist economic regression, from China to Russia and from Algeria to Vietnam) and due to the appearance of postmodern culture, the revolution is outside the historical horizon. Does it make sense, then, for the left to continue? On the one hand, the reasons for that epochal failure have not been evaluated. On the other, the criticism of capitalism is still valid, although not the models of society that accompanied it. Maintaining the social struggle and opening new options is what is possible today, linked to the effort that national/popular governments have made in Latin America to introduce into the democratic/bourgeois political system, the historical claims of the left. ; Hacia 1979, con la revolución nicaragüense, se cerraba el ciclo de las revoluciones anticapitalistas del siglo XX. Por el fracaso posterior de esos intentos (con regresión económica capitalista, desde China a Rusia y desde Argelia a Vietnam) y por la aparición de la cultura posmoderna, la revolución está fuera del horizonte histórico. ¿Tiene sentido, entonces, que las izquierdas continúen? Por una parte, no se ha evaluado las razones de aquel fracaso epocal. Por otra, la crítica hacia el capitalismo sigue vigente, aunque no los modelos de sociedad que la acompañaron. Mantener la lucha social y abrir nuevas opciones es lo hoy posible, ligado al esfuerzo que en Latinoamérica han hecho gobiernos nacionales/populares por introducir dentro del sistema político democrático/burgués, las reivindicaciones históricas de las izquierdas.
