      U ovom je radu opisan sustav trgovanja emisijskim jedinicama Europske Unije (EU ETS) i specifične značajke koje se odnose na postrojenja prehrambene industrije koja sudjeluju u sustavu trgovanja. Opisane su osnovne značajke i mogućnosti primjene šumske biomase kao zamjene za prirodni plin u proizvodnji procesne topline u postrojenjima prehrambene industrije. Opisani su glavni utjecaji izgaranja šumske biomase na okoliš. Analizirane su novčane uštede za tipično postrojenje prehrambene industrije srednje veličine ukupne instalirane toplinske snage 24 MW, koje nastaju u slučaju zamjene prirodnog plina šumskom biomasom zbog smanjenja emisijskih jedinica. Analizirane su uštede za dva scenarija predviđanja cijena emisijskih jedinica na EU ETS (Niži i Viši scenarij). Analiza je izrađena na temelju drvne sječke gornje ogrjevne vrijednosti 12,2 MJ/kg, udjela vlage 30 % i udjela pepela od 1,0 %. Analizirani su glavni troškovi koji uključuju troškove ulaganja u kotlove za izgaranje šumske biomase. Analizirani su i neki manji troškovi poput troškova odlaganja pepela. ; This paper describes European Union Emission Trading Scheme (EU ETS) with specific characteristics of food processing industries participating in it. Key characteristics and possibilities of substituting natural gas with wood biomass in food manufacturing industries process heat production are discussed. Main environmental effects of burning wood biomass are described. Savings for a typical medium sized food manufacturing plant with 24 MW thermal power are analysed. Those savings occur when substituting natural gas with wood biomass because of emission units decrease. Savings for two future emission price scenarios were analysed (Lower and Higher). Analysis was based on wood chips with 12,2 MJ/kg lower heating value, 30 % moisture content and 1,0 % ash content. Main investment costs for biomass boilers were analysed. Some lower expentitures like the cost of ash disposal were taken into account.
