نبذة مختصرة : The horizontal and vertical lingual variation of the traditional Southern Žemaitian subdialect of Raseiniai was examined based on geolinguistic theories and methodologies, sociolinguistic instrumentations. For the first time, the entire areal of the traditional Lithuanian subdialect was systemically analysed applying the multimodal three-steps model. The following were determined: correlations between vitality of the communities in settlements and administrational statuses, sociocultural, socioeconomical conditions in those settlements (named under the LKA points in the „Atlas of the Lithuanian language“ (1977, 1982, 1991)); sociocultural characteristics of the communities; micro- and macro- environments and sociocultural networks features influence on the local lingual varieties continuum. For the first time, subjective attitude and objective dialect indicator collation was integrated into the multimodal model. The dialectal indicators and levels were quantitively evaluated. Usage reasons of dialectal features that distinguish Southern Žemaitians of Raseiniai from other subdialects were ascertained. The thesis comes to the conclusion that the informants subjective own language evaluations as non-dialectal do not reflect real lingual situation in real time. And the changed nomenclature dialectal indicators values do not eliminate the observed territory from the Žemaitian areal. More, it supposes that the regional dialectal varieties of the language are encompassed into the new regional dialectal formation – Žemaitian regiolect.
