International audience ; This communication is an opportunity to present a panorama of research carried out on the monument and its surrounding environment over the last fifteen years. The collection and analysis of archival and iconographical documents, scientific studies of the degradation processes of building stone, photogrammetric surveys and 3D scanning of the monument have gone hand in hand with a variety of archaeological investigations. Since 1996, watching briefs, test trenching, research and rescue excavations have given new insight into the rather chaotic renaissance building project and 18th century castle life. The question of the relations between the environment and the castle with its grounds has gradually come to the fore, generating research projects aimed specifically at the village, the grounds, the surrounding forests and, lately, the gardens. We can offer an early glimpse of the results of the excavations carried out during the summer of 2016 on the north and east parterres within the framework of the restoration of the 18th century formal gardens. Post excavation work is still underway but the collected data looks particularly promising for the evolution of the site and its improvement since the 16th century. It has shed light on a project for a formal garden which had been laid out between 1682 and 1684, then completely modified before being abandoned around 1686. Work resumed in 1730 to create a regular pleasure garden in front of the north and east facades of the castle. The overall configuration of this new garden has remained to this day. Excavation showed many of its original features and allowed us to follow their evolution up until the current restoration program.
