نبذة مختصرة : Some gay people choose to walk underground, most of them also appear as heterosexuals to avoid discrimination and rejection from society. It is difficult for gay people to show their true selves, so they use the term gay-dar (gay radar). This study aims to determine the use of nonverbal communication in identifying sexual orientation among gay people. In this study, the author uses relevant theories and concepts, namely the theory of interpersonal communication, verbal, and non-verbal communication. This study uses a qualitative research approach and uses phenomenological research methods. Data was collected using interview and documentation methods. Non-verbal communication that exists in the gaydar phenomenon can also include kinesic messages, facial messages, gestural messages, and postural messages that are different from men in general and look more feminine, gentle, and graceful. In addition, in terms of proxemic messages, gay people prefer to stay away from the public because they realize that they have not been accepted by the wider community. The use of nonverbal communication in the form of artifactual messages, paralinguistic messages, tactile messages, and messages in the form of smells become nonverbal communication messages used in identifying gay sexual orientation. Sebagian kaum gay memilih berjalan secara underground (sembunyi-sembunyi), kebanyakan dari mereka juga muncul seolah-olah sebagai kaum heteroseksual untuk menghindari diskriminasi dan penolakan dari masyarakat. Sulitnya kaum gay menunjukan diri mereka yang sesungguhnya, sehingga menggunakan istilah gay-dar (gay radar). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggunaan komunikasi nonverbal dalam mengidentifikasi orientasi seksual di kalangan gay.
