CONSUMPTION OF PSYCHOACTIVE SUBSTANCES AS A COPING STRATEGY IN WOMEN SEX WORKERS OF “LA SALA ORGANIZATION”, COSTA RICA ; CONSUMO DE SUSTANCIAS PSICOACTIVAS COMO ESTRATEGIA DE AFRONTAMIENTO EN MUJERES TRABAJADORAS SEXUALES DE LA ASOCIACIÓN LA SALA, COSTA RICA

Sex work is one of the professions that is usually related to the use of substances by thosewho exercise it. The purpose of this study was to establish whether such consumption isused as a coping strategy in the face of stress, anxiety and depression. Using a quantitativemethodology, a group of sex workers belonging to the La Sala Association were evaluated.It was found that the consumption of substances is one of the strategies used to deal withthe perks of the profession, but it is not an end in itself. ; El trabajo sexual es una de las actividades que suele estar relacionada al consumo de sustancias.Al respecto, este estudio busca establecer si el consumo se utiliza como una estrategiade afrontamiento del estrés, la ansiedad y la depresión por parte de las trabajadorassexuales. Se utiliza una metodología cuantitativa y se evaluó a un grupo de trabajadorassexuales pertenecientes a la Asociación La Sala en Costa Rica. Se encontró que el consumode sustancias es una de las estrategiasutilizadas para afrontar los pormenores de la profesión,pero no es una motivación para su desarrollo.
