      Introduction. Geological time is a crucial scientific concept for understanding planetary processes and the place where we live. Objective. This article seeks to show the importance of working on geological time in Basic Education. Methods and procedures. Founded on the National Common Curricular Base referring to the area of Natural Sciences and samples of teaching materials from influential Brazilian publishers, present in the National Book and Teaching Material Program (PNLD) in recent years, we point out how much Geology content is present in classes, especially those that refer to geological time. Results. We noticed a significant need for more clarity regarding such content in these documents, as well as gaps in the preparation of teachers to work on these topics in Sciences classes. We briefly review some of the essential characters and moments in the development of Geology, remembering that, like other sciences, it also marks an essential revolution in the conception of the world precisely due to its concept of geological time. Conclusion. Having the theme of geological time as central in the Geology contents to be worked on in Basic Education, we draw attention, based on critical reflection and proposals on the topic, to its importance in the construction of scientific literacy in reading the place and consequently, in the relationship between human beings and occupied space. ; Introdución. En este artículo buscamos mostrar la importancia de trabajar el concepto de tiempo geológico en la Educación Básica. Métodos, procedimientos y resultados.
