نبذة مختصرة : The purpose of this study is to give assistance toward improvememt of teacher training in the Education Department of the University of the Ryukyus.The present teacher. training system has been criticized by the professors and others.\nThe study concludes that the aforesaid training system for teachers in the Eiucation Department is required to improve its system and curriculum in order to meet the following needs:\n1. Required to legally establish its purpose for teacher training. Presently it displays no definite purpose, and no clear nature as teacher training can be found in the current system.\n2. Required to improve the system to maintain an adequate balance of teachers between supply and demand, and also to meet the school needs.\n The Department of Education is confronted with the difficult problem of how to send its graduates to the schools; elementary schools are suffering from teacher surplus, and secondary schools from a shortage of science teachers. This situation exists entirely because of the non-systematic training of teachers. Yet kindergarten and special education course teachers expect to be able to look forward to a secure future. Therefore, adequate kindergarten training courses, special education courses, and a graduate school course for teachers in service and for research workers must be established. Staff organization is vague; whether it should be academic or professional remains in doubt.\n3. It is necessary to improve the curriculum for teacher training to raise the standard of education of student teachers and teachers in service.\n There is a strong trend indicating that the level of education of students training to be teachers shows a marked decline of late. It is typical of the curriculum that the Department of Education offers that it requires the students to acquire only the minimum credits necessary to attain the Teacher's Certificate.
