      In this paper we present the results of a qualitative research that aimed to identify and interpret characteristics of Mathematical Modeling (MM) from the notion of relationship to knowledge and its dimensions. For this purpose, articles dealing with MM were obtained in the following journals: Boletim de Educação (Bolema); Educação Matemática em Revista (EMR); Revista de Educação Matemática (REMat); Zetetiké. The research corpus consisted of 30 articles that approach MM through a theoretical bias. The analyzes were based on the procedures suggested by the Textual Discursive Analysis (DTA) and from this analytical process 14 different analysis units (AU) emerged, signified by the excerpts extracted from the articles. Such analysis units were organized into three categories that characterize the relationship to knowledge, they are: epistemic dimension, personal dimension and social dimension. From this process, we conclude that the actions of teachers and students within the scope of MM reveal epistemic, personal and social aspects about the learning of Mathematics. We believe that the dimensions of the relationship to knowledge can serve as a focus for proposals for MM activities, as they deal with the characteristics of the teaching and learning relationships between the subjects involved in them, namely: the relationship between teacher and students; the relationship between teacher and knowledge; and the relationship between students and knowledge. ; Neste artigo apresentamos os resultados de uma pesquisa de caráter qualitativo que teve como objetivo identificar e interpretar características da Modelagem Matemática (MM) presentes na literatura, a partir da noção de relação com o saber e suas dimensões.
