      Urban streams and rivers are essential for watershed drainage and environmental preservation. However, urbanization has exacerbated environmental issues, such as increased surface runoff. This study analyzes the impacts of urbanization on the Barro Preto watershed in Mariana (MG), considering land-use scenarios from 2007 and 2024. Using the HEC-HMS software for hydrological modeling and QGIS for geoprocessing, it was identified that over 17 years, impervious areas increased significantly, with a 255.45% rise in residential zones and up to a 71.70% reduction in natural areas. Consequently, peak flows increased by 92% for a 10-year Return Interval (RI) and by 72% and 62% for RIs of 25 and 50 years, respectively, surpassing the capacity of the current infrastructure. The study highlights the need for an Urban Drainage Master Plan, coupled with public policies to regulate land use, maintain and enhance drainage networks, and implement sustainable strategies. Therefore, intensive urbanization in the Barro Preto watershed has caused significant environmental and social impacts. It is recommended to prioritize urban drainage and establish effective public policies for land use and water pollution reduction. ; Os córregos e rios urbanos são fundamentais para a drenagem das bacias hidrográficas e para a preservação ambiental.
