Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are an extremely common occupational health problem among many workers. Care professions, such as nursing, are not spared from these challenges. In Vietnam, the problem of MSDs among nurses is still poorly understood in the context of the development of occupational health concepts and addressing occupational diseases in general and MSDs in particular. The objective of this thesis was to conduct a pilot study that was divided into two phases (cross-sectional and interventional) to first assess the epidemiology situation of MSDs amond district hospital nurses and as a second step, to assess the effectiveness of targeted interventions to prevent these MSDs. Results from the cross-sectional phase showed a high MSD prevalence (60,6% in men and 77,6% in women) that affect many anatomical sites in this nursing population. Multi-site and widespread musculoskeletal symptoms (MS) are very common (37,6% and 10,4% in men and 57,1% and 18,6% in women, respectively) and bring forth questions about the variety of MSD-associated risk factors. In addition, this phase also showed the limited knowledge of nurses regarding these MSDs and a negative impact of multi-site MS on the nurses' quality of life. Finally, the interventional phase highlighted simple preventive measures (presentation, training, physical exercise) that caused very little improvement in these conditions. As a result, future interventions must take into account other preventive factors, probably targeted directly at these specific MSDs. Beyond this overview, this thesis suggests and offers great perspectives for future studies and public health policies related to MSDs in Vietnam.
