Migration is classically analysed in migration theories as a behaviour associated with social change, professional mobility, more globally, modernity. Patriarchy is defined as a type of conservative social organisation; a certain number of institutions and practices based on law, custom and religion aimed at ensuring its perpetuation. We start from patriarchy seen as an ideal model and the control it exerts on demographic behaviours, that is to say situated within the problematics dealt with. Gender and social development which are also to a great extent intertwined, are particularly relevant in the case of migrations (I). Regarding the structure and functioning of households, we then turn to demographic analysis, microeconomics, the sociology of intra-family relations, and the anthropology of gender and age seniority (II). The internal functioning of these households is elucidated by economic data (III). Sociological (IV) and anthropological (V) analyses allow contextualising the interactions between migration and patriarchy. The conclusion offers an epistemological critique (VI).
