      The Federal Law No. 11.114 of May 16, 2005, made compulsory the registration of children from six years of age in elementary education, who were once part of early childhood education. This study investigated the technical and financial subsidies offered by the Ministry of Education (MEC) to the Education Departments of all Brazilian states and municipalities in order to implement the basic education of nine years. The study was developed from research of primary sources and works already produced on the issue. In relation to the primary sources, it was conducted a survey of documents produced by MEC to support the implementation of basic education of nine years. These documents are: three reports on the “Programme of Expansion of Basic Education of nine years”, the document "Guidelines - Teaching Elementary nine years"; “Steps of the Deployment Process"; "Complementary Collection: knowledge areas in the first two years of elementary school", "Guidelines for the inclusion of children six years old," "Child of Six Years, Written Language and the Elementary School for nine years: guidance for working with written language in classrooms with children 6 years of age" and "Inquiring about the curriculum". The subsidies found were classified as technical, financial and conceptual subsidies and some comparative tables were made to monitoring the response of MEC to the demands of public school systems. In addition, an interview with MEC was scheduled in order to address some questions about the subsidies provided to educational systems and schools. It was made contact with MEC and sent a script of questions by email, however no response was obtained till the present date. As a result of this study it was found that the actions of MEC to support the implementation of basic education of nine years were: regional and national meetings, seminars and publications of documents.
