10- popular and successful. "Another large earner is the Executive Development Program operation under the direction of Dr. El Sayed which involves institute workshops and cour~es in the Egyptian locus for businesses and government entities. "When political considerations permit, these programs and the CITS ones will be expanded to other countries." g. Campus Planning and Housing - The Chairman, Mr. Bacon, reported that the Committee considered the following. The Z2 site - 1S considered by the Committee to be too valuable for use for University housing except as an absolute last resort. The Committee would prefer to explore other sites, such as the one next to the present men's hostel. They estimate that a seven story housing unit could be erected there for LE 750,000, with the cost escalating by 25% per year. The new Library - continues to be characterized by delays and problems in supply and furnishings. Unless an exemption from customs duties on imported supplies and equipment can be obtained, the University will suffer a major financial blow. Present space - is continuing to be developed with imagination. Hill House will be renovated and available for other use once the new Library opens. A grant from the Weyerhauser family for this purpose is possible. Hewart Hall needs refurbishing, but the Committee believes this is low on the list of priorities unless specific funding can be obtained. Housing - continues to be a main problem facing the University. Leases are being lost and costs are escalating rapidly. Money must be found from AID or elsewhere to attack the problem. It is unlikely that AID will provide money for faculty housing, even if combined with student housing. The Board took no action on the housing problem. President Pedersen is to study the matter further
