نبذة مختصرة : VisagiSMile® is based on the concept of visagism and allows, on the basis of a psychological questionnaire, to propose a dominant temperament (DT) associated to a shape of maxillary incisor (MI). The main objective of our study was to establish if there was a concordance between the shape of the MI and the DT determined by the psychological questionnaire. For the secondary objectives, we examined this concordance based on the population’s characteristics and the concordance between the shape of the maxillary central incisor and the shape of the face. This was an observational cross-sectional study. Eighty-four students from the Odontology University of Bordeaux were included in the study. The study of the concordance between the shape of the MI and the DT and the concordance between the shape of the central maxillary incisor and the shape of the face were evaluated by calculating a Cohen Kappa coefficient. The assessment of concordance according to the characteristics of the sample was performed using a logistic regression, first in univariate and then in a multivariate model. The concordance between the shape of the MI and the DT showed a very weak agreement (Kappa = 0,098 [0,098 ; 0,098]). In multivariate, subjects with oval or rectangle MI had significantly less chance of concordance between the shape of the IM observed and the DT than those with square shaped IM (OR=0,18 et 0,10 ; IC= [0,04 ; 0,79] et [0,02 ; 0,57]). Finally, the concordance between the shape of the maxillary central incisor and the shape of the face observed showed a very weak agreement (Kappa = 0,11 [-0,12 ; 0,34]). Based on our results, the contribution of visagism in virtual esthetic projects does not seem to be of major interest in dentistry.
