O enfrentamento das doenças crônicas em idosos institucionalizados na perspectiva da espiritualidade ; The Addressing the chronicle diseases in the institutionalized elderly in view of spirituality

The increase in the percentage of elderly in the population is now also a Brazilian reality. Associated to this change, compounded by the increased incidence of chronicle diseases in this age group which becomes a risk factor for instutionalization. In this context, religion can presents itself, in the disease, as an internal resource that contributes to its acceptance, coping and even its own rehabilitation. In view of this, the research aimed at studying the facing of chronicle diseases in institutionalized elderly in the great area of João Pessoa/PB in the perspective of spirituality, as well as analyzing the more present indicators adopted in the facing of the disease by institutionalized elderly (Coping Religious Spiritual positive and negative), evaluate the demographic, socioeconomic, religious and health profile of the elderly and observe religious practices adopted in Long Term Institutes. This is an exploratory and descriptive research, with a quantitave and qualitative approach, focusing on these three institutions, located in the great area of João Pessoa - PB. The instruments used for data collection were: a general questionnaire (sociodemographic, clinical and religious), the Mini Mental State Examination and the Sipiritual Religious Coping Questionnaire (PANZINI, 2005). The sample consisted of 28 individuals of both genders, mostly women (71,4%), between 71 and 81 years (39,3%), single (42,9%), which possessed a high school education (42,9%), with time to institutionalization between 4 and 6 years (39,3%), hypertension (71,4%), Catholics (71,4%) and attending some space for religious activities (82,1%). With the use of the questionnaire, it was verified that there was a high use, by the respondents, religiosity/spirituality in the facing of chronicle diseases, represented by an average of Coping Religious/Spiritual Total of 3.6, on a scale of one to five.
