Nursing performance in monitoring children with autism spectrum disorder ; Atuação da enfermagem no acompanhamento da criança do transtorno autista

Introduction: The motivation for carrying out this study arose from participation in a project about children with autism. An increase in cases of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has been reported in several countries. This process raises many questions, from screening methods to the quality of care provided by professionais nurses. General objective: the objective of this study is to describe nursing actions towards children with autism spectrum disorder. Method: This is an integrative review with a qualitative and descriptive approach. To this end, the following databases were used: Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature Database (LILACS), National Library of Medicine (MEDLINE) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO). Articles published over a 5-year period were selected. Results: In a sample of 205 articles found. Afterwards, another 76 articles were excluded, as they were not related to the work problem, leaving only 8 articles. Discussion: It was found that nursing is an important vector for progress, towards realizing the right to full social inclusion of children with ASD. Based on the evidence verified through the bibliographies consulted in this study, it can be understood that it is necessary to include children with ASD in public health policies, based on the actions of nursing professionals. Conclusion: Despite significant advances in health policy aimed at people with ASD, the Unified Health System (SUS) still needs to overcome many obstacles, such as budget restrictions, and thus seek to invest more in mental health policies and prioritize community services to the detriment of hospitals and psychiatric health centers. ; Introdução: A motivação para a realização deste estudo, surgiu a partir da participação em um projeto sobre crianças com autismo.
