      This dissertation was developed within the scope of the Professional Master in Management and Evaluation of Education (PPGP) of the Center of Public Policies and Education Evaluation of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (CAEd/UFJF). The management case studied focused on the analysis of the procedures of the public tenders for Professors within the ambit of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF) to propose ways of perfecting the selection procedures for the position of Professor. This study includes the public tenders for Professors as much to the Higher Career as to the Basic Teaching, Technical and Technological Career (EBTT). Its relevance is due to the finding of the existence of obstacles in the course of the promoted contests, which generates the interposition of resources, which may harm the institutional image and the efficiency of the filling of the vacancies. Thus, the objective defined for this study was to describe the procedures of the public tenders held at UFJF for the selection of Professors and the problems that occurred during the process. Next, it is analyzed how the practices of selection have been carried out in different units of UFJF. For this, the methodological instruments used were the documental research, the bibliographical research and the field research. The field research was conducted through semi-structured interviews with nine UFJF Department Heads, which result diagnosed the need of well-established procedures, as well as a trained and structure team for the conduction of the public tenders. It was verified that, despite the existence of an ordinance responsible for regulating the stages of the contest and elements of each moment, there are a variety of procedural interpretations, which tends to cause a non-standardization of the process.
