The purposes of this research were to collect the information of the clothing production experience in the school days and to find effective teaching methods of sewing. The survey was conducted by questionnaires on university students who took the Home Economics class at the elementary school teacher training course in Japan 2008-2010. Before learning at this class, students had various impressions about using a sewing machine: handy, gadget, willingness, fear, trouble/hard, scanty equipments. After the practice of operating a sewing machine and making a handkerchief's pouch, good impressions of using a sewing machine was improved. A difference in sewing machine operation ability between the students was dissolved, too. It became clear that making a pouch with a sewing machine have good effects of impressions and skills for the sewing at the elementary school teacher training course. ; departmental bulletin paper
