نبذة مختصرة : This work deals with an investigation about the subject called teaching sickness, approached by Esteve (1999). It has the city of Rio Grande/RS as the place of research and the target the teachers from the public schools. It aims at checking the number of official clearances of these professionals from their workplaces in the years of 2010 and 2011, as well as render problematic such ocurrences. The intention of verifying the incidence of this phenomenon starts from the empiric observations, which spotted a high number of absences from the teaching activity and the existence of complaints about the profession and the educational environment. We have chosen a mixed approach of the research, articulating bibliographic revision, documental, utilization of a standard questionnaire (JBELLI, 2012), interventionist action based on the escrileituras (CORAZZA, 2010) and halfstructured interviews. The theoretical bases had Freud (1969) as the propulsor for the studies about the sickness, having as complements modern researches on the subject by Vieira et al. (2010), Fernandez (2011), Timm, Mosquera and Stobaus (2010), Mendes et al (2011), Levy and Sobrinho (2010) and Costa (2005). Added to this group are Veiga-Neto (2011), Deleuze (1988) and Guattari (1992). Such fundaments subsidized the analysys process, which was constituted according to the methodological procedures adopted. To execute the documental research we have contacted the Posto de Saúde, Núcleo Municipal de Educação Permanente em Saúde (NEPES), and Sindicato dos Professores do Rio Grande do Sul (CPERS), that pointed a high rate of absent teachers in the years mentioned. The standard questionnaire (JBEILI, 2012) was answered by 23 educators, with the indication that 43% presented the chance of developing the phenomenon. The qualitative information was checked by means of escrileituradas productions constituted in the studios and the testimonies of teachers in interviews.
