The Iberian Dictatorships and the American ally in Terms of Modernization, 1945-1975 ; Las dictaduras ibéricas y el aliado americano en clave de modernización, 1945-1975

Taking into account the most recent publications in historiography on Cold War, the article aim at comparing how this conflict affected the dictatorships of Franco and Salazar with the analysis of the relationship established since 1945 with the USA. The other objectives are to measure if the bilateral relationships US-Spain and US-Portugal had any repercussion on the global development of the Cold War and to estimate the influence of that connection with the USA on the socio-economic modernization which happened in both countries till 1975. This last process can’t be considered as just Americanization, but Westernization, considering the simultaneous influence of different European processes and countries. ; Partiendo de las últimas aportaciones de la historiografía sobre Guerra Fría, el artículo se propone comparar cómo afecta este conflicto a las dos dictaduras ibéricas a través de la nueva relación que se establece con Estados Unidos (EE.UU.) desde 1945, calibrar en lo posible si las relaciones bilaterales con estos países repercutieron en el conflicto global y valorar la influencia de la conexión norteamericana en la modernización socio-económica que se produjo en ellos hasta 1975. Ese último proceso no puede presentarse como mera americanización, sino más bien como occidentalización dada la simultánea influencia de países y procesos europeos.
