International audience ; Studying the reviews of works published in the "Bulletin de la Société de linguistique" (BSL), we analyse the forms and the conditions through which the Société de linguistique de Paris (SLP) excluded philosophy of language from its field of study and how, belatedly, it granted semantics the status of a linguistic knowledge proper. Beyond the prohibitions listed in the SLP's status which bore upon the philosophical themes of the origin of language and of a universal language, we examine that distinction made by Meillet between philosophy of linguistics (likened to general linguistics) and linguistic philosophy. We then consider the two main epistemological virtues which Meillet ascribes to the latter (in relation to Cassirer) : widening horizons, classifying theories. Regarding semantics, we first deal with the setback of Bréal's semantics, second, with the limits that the comparatist then structural empiricism, which was for a long time in force in the SLP, induced to the development of an autonomous semantic and, thirdly, we analyse the misunderstandings around the reception of Marty's or Trier's works. Following this, we study Benvenist's reflexions on meaning and the semiotic/semantic distinction, the importance given to the works of P. Guiraud and B. Pottier within the BSL during the 1950's and 1960's, and finally, the recent recognition of different semantic theories made particularly conspicuous by the admission of a large number of semioticians in the SLP from the 1980's onward.
