نبذة مختصرة : On April 1, 2019, at NIT, placement exams in Mathematics, Physics, and English were administered to the newly enrolled first-year students to provide them with proficiency-dependent teaching under the quarter system which had begun in the preceding academic year. In addition, on the same day, after the three examinations, a Japanese vocabulary IRT test was also conducted on the newcomers to measure their Japanese language ability. A few days later, the result data of all the four exams became accessible to the faculty. Before the current school year, all our full-time English Teaching Department staff checked our placement test carried out last year. As a consequence, no changes were made to its exam questions, but the borderlines between the passers and the failures were redrawn because of last first quarter's imbalance in the number of students among the courses. In this paper, therefore, the English examination is verified, especially closely on whether the changed cut scores were appropriate, and also as a new attempt, the data of the other three tests are analyzed to use them to design our English-course classes.
