نبذة مختصرة : Resumo: O crescimento populacional de cidades que ficam localizadas nas margens dos rios tem como uma das consequencias a sua poluicao, recebendo dejetos agricolas e industriais, lixo domestico e esgoto sem tratamento. Os rios da Bacia do Rio Itajai-Acu, que tem nas suas margens cidades como Blumenau e Brusque, no estado de Santa Catarina, fazem parte do estudo, pela sua importância na Regiao do Vale do Itajai. O artigo abrange o historico e localizacao da bacia; analise de reportagens sobre poluicao da bacia; descricao e analise de tres projetos que com acoes de conscientizacao atraves da educacao ambiental nas escolas, nas comunidades e envolvimento de autoridades publicas e empresarios. A metodologia empregada foi a pesquisa de reportagens em jornais regionais, artigos cientificos, relatorios e material iconografico. Impossivel afirmar que a poluicao da bacia do rio Itajai-Acu desapareceu, mas as diferentes acoes evidenciaram a importância do envolvimento de diferentes atores da comunidade como aliados na preservacao. Preservacao THE ITAJAI-ACU BASIN ASKS FOR HELP: REACTIONS TO THE APPEAL Abstract: The population growth of cities that are located on the banks of rivers has as one of the consequences its pollution, receiving agricultural and industrial waste, domestic waste and sewage without treatment. The rivers of the Itajai-Acu River Basin, which has on its margins cities such as Blumenau and Brusque, in the state of Santa Catarina, are part of the study, due to its importance in the Itajai Valley Region. The article covers the history and location of the basin; analysis of reports on basin pollution; description and analysis of three projects that with awareness actions through environmental education in schools, communities and involvement of public authorities and entrepreneurs. The methodology used was the research of reports in regional newspapers, scientific articles, reports and iconographic material. It is impossible to affirm that the pollution of the Itajai-Acu river basin has disappeared, but the different actions have highlighted the importance of involving different community actors as allies in preservation.
