نبذة مختصرة : This paper reflects upon the media and its power to induce the audience’s opinion, directing it, sometimes, towards a distorted reality, by manipulating information present in texts and images. Considering questions about photography, such as time, memory, affections and intentionalities, this article discusses the value of an image – its creation, application and meanings. The analysis is focused on the cover page of Veja Magazine, September 1st 2010, about the incident at the coal mine of San Jose, in Chile. Authors like Perseu Abramo, Samira Chalhub, Martine Joly and Eni Orlandi are consulted, to evaluate how the media can use visual and verbal elements to distort the reality and influence thoughts and behaviours.
