[EN] The discovery of Neanderthal human bone remains in 1856, together with the publication of Darwin’s “On the Origin of Species” in 1859 and “The Descent of Manin1871”were two relevant facts that intensified the discussion on the origin of hu-mans.Theemergence of the Paleoanthropology as a new scientific discipline was a result of the complex interactions of social and cultural factors and the influence of newscientific orientations in the field of Palaeontology, such as uniformitarian Geology andthe theory of evolution. However, in the anatomical study of human fossils there stillpersisted traditions of research different from the transformist framework coming fromhistory and linguistics.
[ES] El hallazgo de los restos óseos humanos de Neandertal en 1856 y las pu- blicaciones de On the Origin of Species (1859) y The Descent of Man (1871) de Dar- win, fueron hechos relevantes que contribuyeron a plantear la discusión sobre el ori- gen del género humano.En este escenario,el surgimiento de la Paleontología Humana como una nueva disciplina científica fue resultado de las interacciones complejas de factores sociales y culturales y de la influencia en el campo de la paleontología de nue- vas orientaciones científicas, como la geología actualista y la teoría de la evolución. Pero en el estudio anatómico de los fósiles humanos persistieron tradiciones de inves- tigación ajenas al marco transformista procedentes de la historia y la lingüística.
