      In this article the authors discuss the need for global investment in the control of rheumatic heart disease, which is a rare complication associated with streptococcal bacteria throat infection. They argue that the burden and complexity of the disease have contributed to its neglect by policy makers and discuss its prevalence among indigenous versus non-indigenous populations and why the World Health Organization (WHO) should restart its Global Rheumatic Heart Disease Control Programme.
