      The article discusses a new solution as guide for common diseases where scientists sequenced the first human genome in 2001 and developed chips that can probe the most common variations in DNA that could tie to a common, complex disease like asthma. It cites a study by anthropologist Kathleen Barnes called a genome-wide association study where she encountered a frequent problem in medical genetics. Barnes then embarked on a new study which found almost 50 million gene variants.
