      The article reports that California's insurance commissioner John Garamendi, who recently lost the Democratic gubernatorial nomination to Kathleen Brown, has called insurance companies greedy pigs at the trough. Now California insurance associations report that Garamendi called them with personal pleas to buy tickets to a $5,000-a-head fundraiser held in Washington D.C. on August 4, 1994 to help retire his estimated $1.4 million campaign debt. Not surprisingly, Garamendi's request wasn't met with enthusiasm.
