Aim of this present experimental study is the erythropoietin (EPO) testing, in rat animal model and certainly in ischemia/reperfusion injury protocol. The benefit or not of that particular molecule action was studied hematologically in their white blood cells numbers. Material and methods 40 rats of mean weight 235,55gr were used. The counting of white blood cells numbers were performed on the following time points: 60 min after reperfusion (groups A and C) and 120 min after reperfusion (groups B and D), A and B groups without but C and D groups with EPO. Results 1) erythropoietin presence increases the number of white blood cells by 1.025 103/mm3 [0.1960157 103/mm3 - 1.853984 103/mm3] (P=0.0167), 2) reperfusion time increases white blood cells by 0.6749999 103/mm3 [-0.1918239 103/mm3 - 1.541824 103/mm3] (P= 0.1232) and 3) the interaction of erythropoietin presence and reperfusion time increases the number of white blood cells by 0.6790909 103/mm3 [0.1878032 103/mm3 - 1.170379 103/mm3] (P=0.0080). Conclusions erythropoietin presence as well interaction of erythropoietin presence and reperfusion time increases the white blood cells numbers importantly, but corresponding conclusion cannot be inferred for reperfusion time alone, at this certain sample, at least.
