The article focuses on "Popular Science's" 2013 group of 10 young scientists and engineers who have reshaped their fields of study and the future, called the Brilliant Ten. The achievements and research of scientists including climatologist Scott Collis of the U.S. Argonne National Laboratory, University of South Florida microbial ecologist Mya Breitbart, and materials scientist Pedro Reis of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are discussed.
