The article reports on the poor performance of National Broadcasting Co. Inc. (NBC) since its takeover by General Electric Co. (GE) in 1986. Among the three networks, NBC was a strong number one when GE acquired it as the centerpiece of its $6.4 billion acquisition in June 1986. But that was then. In 1991, NBC is in a virtual dead heat in the ratings wars with CBS Broadcasting Inc. and American Broadcasting Co. NBC has had no new major prime-time hits in two years. It has lost market share among the networks, which are they losing market to cable television. Prime-time viewership of all networks has dropped to 62%, from 85% ten years ago.
