      On November 15, 1990, President George H. W. Bush signed into law the Clean Air Act of 1990. This law was designed to improve and strengthen the regulations already established by the 1970 Clean Air Act and its 1977 amendments, which had given the federal government authority to set national standards to protect human health and welfare.
