French Guiana is an overseas territory of France located on the northeastern coast of South America. Although it is geographically a part of South America, as an overseas region of France it is politically and economically aligned with Europe. This means that it is officially a part of the European Union and uses the euro as its currency. It is also represented politically in the National Assembly of France.
