      The article discusses the need to integrate clinical, social, and environmental data with genomic and molecular information in personalized medicine. The authors argue that personalized medicine could become depersonalized unless the clinical, social, and environmental features affecting disease outcomes are incorporated into the existing genomics-based approach. Topics include differences in scientific inference embedded in some of the earliest demonstrations of personalized medicine, data from the Beta-Blocker Heart Attack Trial (BHAT) in the U.S. illustrating these differences, and instances in which environmental features dominate genetic ones, such as in cases of cardiovascular disease.
