The article focuses on the use of imagery and science in voice education. It comments on the philosophical division between imagery-based and science-based approaches to voice pedagogy which started with the invention of the laryngoscope in 1854 by Manual Garcia and mentions the lack of data concerning which techniques are in use by contemporary pedagogues. It talks about a survey of voice teachers that found 86 percent of voice teachers were open to the use of both imagery and science with students and found both methods to be helpful or very helpful. It mentions that while 80 percent of voice teachers use a blended approach in voice education, 56 percent believe there is a philosophical divide in the profession as a whole.
