      The article discusses the findings of the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) where 53,000 high risk smokers (55 to 74 years with 30 years of tobacco use) were Computed Tomography (CT) scanned three times, a year apart with 6.5 years of follow up. For every 10,000 people 33 were detected and treated, which indicates low-dose “spiral” CT scan can spot lung cancer especially at the early stage. However some risks include radiation which increases cancer risk in later life and rare complications from invasive operations like needle biopsy.
