      The article offers information on a residential four day workshop called the Institute of Mathematics Pedagogy which was organized by the authors in the year 2011. The workshop focused on the importance of tasks in teaching and learning of mathematics. One of the topics considered was whether school mathematics can be separated from the tasks used to teach the subject.
