Distance learning techniques developed for existing LMS models do not always serve students well, and may deter adoption by instructors. Rather than depend on a one-size-fits-all LMS modeled on the templates commercially used to attract and dazzle consumers that require students and faculty to learn new rules of navigation and implementation, my course bundles already-familiar third-party Web 2.0 services, taking advantage of the practices underlying existing Internet relationships among students, while maintaining formal integrity through rigorous "packaging." The complex challenges associated with learning writing via the Internet are made simpler through the use of low-tech online presentations and communication. The emphasis is on creating relationships with students, and establishing systems of collaboration among students, to better replicate many successful pedagogical techniques of the classroom. A system for teaching a class of 15 students is scalable for classes of 100 or more. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
