      The article presents a discussion of research which has investigated debates regarding libraries' use of Web 2.0 tools. A discussion of the implications of academic libraries' presence in commercially owned social media spaces is presented. The challenges and benefits that libraries may find from being involved with commercially owned social media spaces are discussed.
