The article presents a policy forum regarding the sustainable fisheries strategy of selective fishing of specific species, sizes, and sexes of fish in order to reduce negative ecological impacts and prevent overfishing. The authors argue that selective fishing of a large range of species and size can maximize catch productivity without major adverse effects on overall biodiversity at low fishing mortalities. They also discuss the balance between balanced harvesting and food security issues.
