The article presents the first part of a series on why men are generally reluctant to consult a health care professional when they experience symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate. It discusses ways in which practice nurses can encourage such men to talk about their symptoms and see a general practitioner (GP). Symptoms of an enlarged prostate are outlined. Information on benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), prostatitis and prostate cancer is also provided.
