The article discusses the challenges in unraveling the demographic history of populations. It is noted that the lack of a universal molecular clock and lack of certainty concerning even calibrated or local molecular clocks is one of the greatest challenges. It is mentioned that more complexity to simple uniform calibration is added by the stochasticity of the coalescence process within lineages.
