The article presents the history of the Republic of Cape Verde. It claims that the Portuguese were the first settlers in the island country. In 1956, Cape Verdean Amilcar Cabral led the creation of the clandestine African Party for the Independence of Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde (PAIGC) to call for the betterment of the economic, social and political lives of the people. In 2006, Pedro Pires won for the second time in the presidential election.
