The article discusses methods used to treat infections of the nervous system during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It notes that infectious diseases affecting the nervous system, including tuberculosis, meningitis, and encephalitis, were treated with remedies such as trepanation, blood-letting using leeches, injection of textile dyes, application of mercury and calomel-based laxative ointments, and puncturing the lower back to extract cephalorachidian fluid.
