    • نبذة مختصرة :
The increasing rate of industrialization with its attendant effects in developed and developing nations, has made it topical to conceptualize sustainable development to meet the needs of the present and future generations. Hence globally, sustainable development is focused on the improvement of quality of life of the present and future generations. It is the development that is lasting. Against the background that there can be no economic and social development if the environment is not preserved, this paper focused on environmental preservation and protection. It identified vocational and technical education as one of the educational tools to achieve sustainable development through integration of concepts of sustainable development into its programmes. This paper then examined the need for integration of sustainable development into vocational and technical education programmes. It focussed on the curriculum implications at the secondary and tertiary institutions. Finally, recommendations were made on how to effect the integration in both formal and non-formal educational systems, as a way of empowering more persons to assume the responsibility for preserving the environment.
