      The article features Werner Richter, the incoming rector of the University of Bonn and the first U.S. citizen to be elected head of a major German university. Driven out of Germany by the Nazis, Richter applied for citizenship in the U.S. Since 1938, he has been teaching on American campuses. In 1948, he started teaching at Bonn. Richter hopes to spread his universal approach, as well as introduce a studium generale and the idea of a U.S. college.
