      The article discusses the relationship between Vitamin D deficiency and asthma. It points out that Vitamin D induces the production of antimicrobial polypeptide cathelicidin that lessens the risk of infection. It indicates the role of Vitamin D in fetal lung development and reported associations between vitamin D and lung functions in adults. It concludes that Vitamin D affects the immune system and lung development and function and clinical trials are being done to assess the role of Vitamin D supplementation in the prevention and treatment of asthma.
