Ten Years of Teaching U.S. History at UNICAMP, Brazil: A Memoir.

The article presents the author's reflections on his experiences as a teacher of U.S. history at the State University of Campinas, Brazil, discussing the challenges he faced in teaching the material, his engagement with the different cultural and historical attitudes of his foreign students, and the larger benefits of teaching transnational history. Diverse anecdotes and comments are included describing the author's goals in undermining and re-addressing the dominant "common sense" narrative of U.S. history in favor of a more complex model, his confrontation with overly positive or negative predispositions towards U.S. culture, and his difficulties in finding texts translated into Portuguese.
