FUEL-EFFICIENCY FOLLIES.

In this article the author criticizes the efficacy of the energy efficiency programs of the U.S. government. He points particularly to an automobile fuel-efficiency goal of 35.5 miles per gallon (mpg) for all new vehicles by 2016. He suggests that this will lead to a decline in automobile sales, as Americans will not want to purchase the smaller, more costly vehicles required to achieve the increased mpg standards.
